About Me
Who am I?
I founded SEGALDESIGN in 1989. My designs for museums and custom exhibitions have been reviewed in the New York Times, the Boston Globe, the Boston Herald, the Providence Journal, the Worcester Telegram, and Boston¹s Channel 5, amongst others. These designs and installations have included content from the Louvre, the Britsh Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the Reichsmuseum, the Smithsonian and the Getty Museum.
I have been been a participant in numerous awarded grant proposals for projects in which I was the designer, including those funded by the NEH, NEA, Getty Foundation, Rockefeller Foundation and Mellon Foundation.
I was an integral member of the design and installation team which designed and oversaw the complete renovation of the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, Massachusetts.
For exhibitions, various elements had to be synthesized to create elegant and thoughtful solutions. I focus on the content and intent of the exhibition, which are most important aspect. Operating within the inevitable restrictions that all projects carry, designs required my working closely with curators, writers, researchers and conservators. I then document and orchestrate the actual production of the exhibition. The culmination of this process is a design and installation that creates a memorable experience for the visitor.
As an independent designer, one has to work with a coterie of experienced museum professionals, including conservators, mount makers, lighting designers, installers, graphic and photographic production houses, fabricators, riggers and others. The unique challenges of each design guide me to bring together the appropriate team of experienced museum professionals best suited to address the needs of the exhibition, at each phase of the development and installation process.
I also have the experience and flexibility to work readily with in-house staff when their services are available.
